Out an about with…. Despatch Coordinator, Nick Jones
Despatch Coordinator, Nick Jones, is more than just an expert in haulage and transport. He’s also a keen runner, representing Great Britain in not one, but three, World Half Marathon Championships in 1999 (Italy), 2000 (Mexico) and 2001 (Bristol). And in 2001, Nick was lucky enough to captain the men’s team whilst World Champion and Gold Medallist, Paula Radcliffe, captained the women’s team. His best time was 1hr and 3 minutes.
Nick originally started at Anderton in 1991 working a summer job before joining full-time after leaving college. He then left in 1997 due to being selected to run for Great Britain but came back to Anderton in 2002.
“I started working on the yard, and then Anderton put me through an HGV Class 2 driver course and I started doing some deliveries as well as working on the forklifts. I then moved into an office role following the completion of a CPC course in Transport Management,” said Nick.
After spending around six months split between Sales and organising deliveries, Nick took responsibility for Transport full time and was involved in organising hauliers and buying in products. He is currently in the same role but now has more involvement with hauliers, having regular meetings and closer dealings on the buying side and in day-to-day orders.
Nick’s wife and two children are also avid runners and are all part of Warrington Athletic Club. Being a former Great Britain International and current England Masters International, Nick’s son Jordon is following in Dad’s footsteps and is currently running for England. Both train every day.
Nick has also run full marathons in London, New York and Frankfurt and his best time recorded was 2hrs 20mins. This year so far he has achieved British Masters Champion three times (in 5km and 10km road races and 10km track) and is hoping to be selected for further England Masters runs in future.
“Anderton has been a great support and sponsor during my time here. I represented England Masters in Malaga in September in the 10k World Masters Championships and finished seventh but first GB athlete. I’m really grateful for the support and encouragement the company has shown me both in and outside of work,” said Nick.
