Running for England

Transport and Logistics Controller, Nick Jones, was recently selected to run for England. He will be part of the England Athletics Vet-40 Masters Cross Country Team at the British and Irish Masters International Cross Country at Tollcross Park in Scotland on Saturday 12th Nov 2016.

Nick has run for England and Great Britain as a senior, but will be first time that Nick has represented his country in a Masters event.Six years ago Nick thought he would never be able to run again, after being diagnosed with a chronic bowel condition, ulcerative colitis, and an auto-immune liver disease called PSC.  Nick was very ill and was forced to stop running for a while, but he now appreciates the sport more than ever before.  With help from his coach, Philip Hicken, he's managed to build his training up gradually, and is now looking forward to representing England in the Masters International Cross Country race.

Nick said: "Everyone has something to deal with, like injuries or illness. I have this to deal with. Colitis is not ideal for a runner, and it can play up, but I try to control as best I can."

"I'm really pleased to be selected to run for my country again, it means so much to me."
